Kuroishi
Hitomi composed this music with photographs of the museum environs
placed nearby and the picture book sitting on the piano in front of
her. She composed each melody based on the natural vibrations
inherent in each instrument, exploring themes of tranquility and
light, beauty and hospitality. The result is a wide range of
instruments woven beautifully into a sonic tapestry, with a unique
sense of harmony and coordination. For example, in one scene a harp
represents light, an erhu (a Chinese stringed instrument) the wind,
a cello the earth, an ocarina the rustling of leaves, and a
bianzhong (a Chinese instrument featuring bells played with a
mallet) water, and the ensemble draws the listener into the world of
Yo's picture book.
The theme songs “Legend of Peach Valley” and “Place of Miracle's,
featuring lyrics composed by Yoh Shomei, are irresistibly hummable
and have become favorite selections for choral groups.
