The first exhibition, centered on Buddhist artworks that have connections
with Nara and Tôdai-ji Temple, includes the Illustrated
Scroll of the Sutra of Cause and Effect and Gigaku masks. A
treasured Yôhen Tenmoku Tea Bowl will be exhibited along with
art objects including a Hinomaru Tray and a sacred water scoop used
during the Shunie prayers for prosperety at the Nigatsu-dô
Hall of Tôdai-ji Temple in the Tea Ceremony display. In the
Annex, inkstones, writing tables, and other lacquer objects related
to Tenjin, the god of scholarship, will be shown.
The second exhibition, The Beauty of Lacquer, will
feature lacquerware in makie and negoro, while Kenzan
ceramics will be the focus of the Tea Ceremony display.
