Groups
of Friends of the Miho Museum visited the traveling Kenzan and Kyoto
Ceramics Exhibition on January 12 at Nipponbashi Takashimaya (4th tour;
35 people), May 25 at Kyoto Takashimaya (5th tour; 24 people), and June
8 at Osaka Namba Takashimaya (6th tour; 22 people).
Thanks to the kindness of representatives of
NHK (Japan's national broadcasting company), the exhibition's sponsor,
and Takashimaya, these tours were a great success, despite the overcrowded
exhibition space.
This exhibition allowed us to trace the evolution
of superb Kyoto ceramics through five ceramic works that were displayed
at all the sites and one painting from the Miho Museum Collection, displayed
only at Shimane and Ibaraki. The exhibition at Nipponbashi Takashimaya
was a particularly enriching experience because of the commentary by
Mr. Masaaki Arakawa, who is curator of the Idemitsu Art Museum and author
of the commentary in the exhibition catalogue. The lucid and friendly
guidance of the Miho Museum curators made the visits to the Kyoto and
Osaka exhibitions an exceptionally enjoyable and relaxed experience.
