Special Tours
As a special benefit to our members of our "Friends of the Museum" group, we offer special tours, which are overnight trips that include hotel accommodations. The first of these coincided with the opening of Yumedono at Horyuji Temple in Nara. To allow a leisurely viewing of the exquisite Buddhist art, two trips were planned for April 24 and 25. The event included a lecture on the art and history of the Asuka and Hakuho periods. Afterwards, Chuguji temple and Hokkiji temple were visited. The number of participants was small, but they enjoyed the tranquil and pleasant atmosphere through the old capital. Chief curator, Hiroaki Katayama, will plan the next special tour.
Regular Tours
The first of the regular tours, which are day trips, was a visit to the Tokushima Castle Museum, followed by a lecture and a visit to the noted treasures of the Hachisuka Family Exhibition.
The second regular tour was a visit to the Buddhist Painting and Rituals of the Imperial Court Exhibition at the Kyoto National Museum.
The third tour was to the Gotoh Museum in Tokyo. After receiving an explanation of the Eyes of Donnoh by Nagoya Akira, who is a curator at the Museum, the exhibition was viewed.
On future tours, curators from the Miho Museum will act as guides to sites of artistic interest throughout Japan.

Sakura News
In Tao Yuan Ming's epic poem "Peach Blossom Spring," dating from the 2nd century B.C., a fisherman enters a woods filled with blooming peach trees. Lured on by the enchanting scene, he wonders through this magical landscape until he comes upon a narrow opening cut into the side of a mountain. Looking into the opening, he sees a shining light and enters. He finds himself in a tunnel that gradually becomes larger until it opens to a splendid, secret world, an earthly paradise known as Toh Gen Kyo Inspired by this poem, I.M. Pei placed 64 weeping cherry trees, especially chosen to blend with Shigaraki's setting and climate, along the road leading from the reception pavilion to the entrance of the tunnel. Following the line of cherry trees, visitors are guided, as was the fisherman, toward a tunnel, at the other end of which is the Miho Museum.
Last year the trees bloomed around April 18 for a full week. This year we are happy to provide information on the blooming of the trees on the Miho Museum's website : http://miho.jp/
